Supreme Court Sittings.
(Per Press Association.) 1 Wellington, December 12. In the Supreme Court Bernard Watts and A. G. Fabian were charged— (l) with having on or about 23rd November stolen 100 postage stamps, the property of the Queen ; (2) with having received the same knowing them to have been stolen. The farmer was employed at the stores department of the Telegraph Department, and the latter resided in the same house with him. Tbe stamps alleged to be stolen were those attached to cablegrams and telegrams, but had been defaced, though, as the crown said they had a market value, as stamp dealers were in the habit of purchasing them. Evidence was given that sealed bags, containing transmitted cables of 1891, had been cut or torn open, and 141 cables were missing. When the court rose at 6 6 p.m. the case for the Crown was unfinished.
