(Per Press Association). Christchurch, Dec. 12. A boy named Fraeer, 11 years of age, was killed this morning by jumping off a swing and falling on the asphalt pavement. The total receipts in connection with the recent Metropolitan Show amounted to £1760 7s and the expenditure .£1236 18s 6d. The misunderstanding between the Mayor and the Cricket Club in regard to the reception of the N.S.W. team has been cleared up, and the Mayor will be present at the reception to-mor-row. Six of the unemployed, who waited on the Mayor yesterday, saw him again to-day respecting the expected reply from the Premier as to the finding of work for them. One of the men told his Worship ' that unless succour came soon he intended putting an end to his life as he could not see his six children starve. Another threatened to run amuck and generally damage things. The Mayor advised the latter tbat should he carry out his threats he need not expect much consideration. No reply having been received by the Mayor, he to-day again communicated with the Premier. Wellington, Dec. 12. j By the lonic to-day, Mr J O. Hay- i ward, of Feather ßt on, shipped to Lon- i don his stallion Derringer, (Mnsket — j Rosalie). Auckland, Dec. 12. Duncan Campbell, a seaman belonging to the brigantine M. A. Doran, was drowned from the vessel at Aratapu. The evidence showed that Campbell had been drinking with others tilt late. In j trying to cross a plank about nine in- | cues wide, used as a gangway, he was thrown into the river by the plank Blip ping on the deck. He was drowned despite the efforts of the men on board to rescue him. A verdict was returned that deceased was accidentaiy drowned while under the influence of liquor. Masterton, Dec. 12. After two days' bearing the jury tonight returned a verdict for the defendant with costs, in the case in which Bangor Brooks, of Mauriceville, claimed L2OO from Dr Beard for alleged negligent treatment. Dunedin, This Day. The search parties sent out to look for traces of Joeeph Robertson, who has since Monday been lost in the bush at the head of Woodhaugh Valley, have been so far unsuccessful. The bush has been so enveloped in fog tbat the party could only see a few yards in front of them. A girl named Bibby has been arrested on a charge of theft from a place where she was at service, and her mother has been arrested on a charge of receiving the goods. The mother was acquitted at the Police Court on Tuesday last on two charges of receiving goods from another daughter who was committed for trial.
