Alleged Illegal Operation Case.

MRS BROWN FOUND GUILTY. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, December 10., In the Supreme Court to-night the charge against Annie Brown, wife of " Dr." Brown, of procuring abortion was concluded. No evidence for the defence was called, but Mr Jellicoe, accused's counsel, addressed the jury at great length, submitting three points to be considered— (Ist). Whether prisoner's husband committed the operation ? Next, did he do so with a criminal intent ? And thirdly, -whether defendant, the wife of a mcdi- ' cal man, book any independent part in the crime of the husband if he did commit the crime. .^ His Honor said there was no evidence, ' the accused was the Wife of Brown. Mr Jellicoe said they had the reputa- - tion of being married people. At 6.40 the jury retired and after deliberating two hours brought in a' verdict of guilty and that the accused was the wife of Brown, and that she tiafl - . acted under his control. Sentence was deferred. On the application of Mr Jelhcoe, the Chief Justice agreed to. reserve certain questions raised during the trial for the Appeal Court. The accused prisoner appeared to be v greatly agitated. The charge against her husband will . be taken on Monday.
