The Abyssinian War.

3000 NATIVES KILLED. (Per Press Association). Rome, Dec. 9. News has been received from Abyssinia that on Sunday 20,000 Shoas surprised five companies of the Italian troops under Major Tosselli at Ambaoli. The latter offered a desperate resistance, and held their position. Hecemhei 10. Major Tosselli's loss is estimated at 900 killed, chiefly natives, who were serving under Italian officers. The engagement with the Shoas extended over eight hours. Three officers, who were leading a portion oi the defeated forces, effected an escape from the Shoas, but the store of ammunition was lost. Later information says that 60 Italian officers were engaged, and the lowest estimate of loss among them is 12, and also the mountain battery. Prior to the encounter repeated orders were sent to Major Tosselli to retire, but he did not receive them. The Minister has informed tne Chamber of Deputies that the position in Abyssinia is safe, and that the enemy had not occupied tbe territory, and tbe incident will be speedily retrieved. Three thousand Shoas were killed in the engagement, including two leading chiefs. The Shoas first overwhelmed the station wings and then the centre. The Italian Government will send 10,000 troops to reinforce.
