Murderous Assaults by a Lunatic.

[Per Press Association] Dunedin. Dec. 9. The rabbiter Sbirlley, who shot Constable Pascoe at Clinton when about to arrest him, was brought into town this evening. Shirlley, who is a powerful man, 6ft in height, displays no symptoms of insanity. It is stated that he had been detained in 1877. He was brought up at Clinton this morning and remanded for 8 days. He will appear at the Police Court to-morrow. [Some of the northern papers publish the name of this man as Shortley, but in the manuscript of our telegrams it is given as Shirlley. |
