APITI SCHOOL MATTERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I noticed a letter in the Feilding Star, of November 23rd, re Apiti School affairs, in which your correspondent states that the Head Mistress of the Apiti School promised to give the children prizes for good attendance. He also states that the Committee, on hearing of this, passed a resolution disap. proving of the teacher's promise. Now, sir, as far as the Committee are concerned, the teacher is at liberty to give as many special prizes as she pleases. " The Committee themselves objected to give prizes for good attendance, as they thought it would be hardly fair to the children who have to walk three and four miles to school and, consequently, could not attend as regularly through the winter as those living near to the school. I have not the honor of knowing "Pater Famihas," but should advise him, in future, to enquire into his facts before rushing into print. I am, etc., E. H. CUMMERFIELD. Chairman of Committee. Apiti, November 25th,-1899.
