The Midland Railway Case.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Nov. 26. In the Midland Bail way arbitration case Mr Geo. Hutchison occupied the whole of to-day in continuation of his opening address for the claimants. Sir Robert Stout is to follow in reply, after which the arbitrators will give their decision as to the respondent's claim for amendment of the claimants statement of claim. Evidence for the claimants will then be led The question of jurisdiction is to be decided at a later stage, after the evidence has been taken. This Day. In the arbitration case Mr G. Hutchison finished his speech at 11.15 a.m., when Sir B. Stout began his address in reply to Mr Hutchison's contentions. He referred to the many concessions the Company had obtained since its formation. Concessions that there was no les;al oblivgationupon successive Governments to give. He pointed out that although tbe Government had in 1881 offered special concessions to any company that should undertake to form a railway from the East to the West Coast, no one had been foolish enough to enter upon the undertaking till this company took it up. Sir B. Stout's address is expected to last the greater part of the day.
