Melbourne. This Day. In some country districts deer are becoming so uumerous as to be almost as great a pest as the rabbits. They do a great deal of damage to the crops and orchards, the highest fences being uo obstacle to them. When it was first sought to acclimatise deer it was thought the task would prove very difficult, and the animals were protected by a perpetual close season a penalty of £lv being imposed upon anyone killing them. These restrictions were never removed. The Minister promised a deputation of farmers he would amend the Game Law.
