THE WEATHER.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — Your correspondent " Parva Sol," in his letter published iv this evening's Star, has certainly shown a moat appropriate cognomen for the present season, although, unless I hare forgotten my Latin, which 1 learnt some sixty-five years ago, I should have chosen " Parve Sol " instead of " Parva Sol " for a name. I regret that I am unable to prove statistically, by means of a sunshine register, thic scarcity of sunshine which we have experienced during the present season. Every person one meets, and with wbom I heartily agree, complains that such wretched weather which we have lately experienced is unprecedented, but when we come to examine the weather statistics it seems difficult to account for it, as will be seen by the following statistical table of the rainfall and number of rainy days for the six months from June to November during the twelve years from 1883 to 1895. The table above referred to is :

The weather which we have experienced, and are now experiencing, may, perhaps, be accounted for by reason of the constant falling of light showers instead of heavy rain, especially of thunderstorms the number of which has surpassed those which havo occurred during my residence in the colony.
