(Continued) A telegram was received from the Education Department stating that the Board's share of the building grant would be £3900. The amount asked for was £17,000, N.Z. Reader — Letter from Education Department, stating the reader prepared by the Department was to be sold at Is 9d each, and copies would be procured by the Board at a discount. — Held over, as also were letters from Messrs Geo. Grant and A. D. Wilhs on the same subject. Nikau— £ for £upto £1 granted towards shelter sheds. West Waitapu— £B granted for work in school grounds. Stanway— Extra week's holiday gran* ted. Palmer's— Mr Fry reported against the establishment of a school here at present. Terrace End — Application for enlargement of school held over, as it was anticipated there would not be any money available. Pupil teacher for sewing to be referred to Mr Pirani. Hawera— Sixty applications were received for the headmastership of this school, and after Messrs Bridge and Pirani had reduced the number to 17, the Board went through the balance and decided to forward eight applications to tbe Hawera Committee. Physical drill— A number of letters from school committees objecting to closing the schools for drill and to purchasing clubs and dumbells out of school funds.— A long discussion took place in the course of which Mr Baker said that if the Board was prepared to provide the services of a good drill instructor to enable the children to walk correctly, hold themselves properly and improve their physical condition generally, the least tbe parents could do would be to contribute a shilling a head nnder the same object. Mr Carson' moved and Mr Bridge seconded, Thatthe Board cannot contribute towards the cost of material. The Rev. Mr Ross moved as an amend* ment, and Mr Hurley seconded, That the Board contribute half the cost of the material required. — It was ascertained that £90 would pay half the cost of the material, if all the pupils necessary were applied.— On a division thp original motion was carried on the pasi'ing vote of the chairman, Messrs Hurley Ross, Pirani, and Fry supporting tbe amendment and Messrs Carson, Bridge, Sanson and Baker for the motion. — The question of the best method of utilising M. de Mey's services was then considered. Mr Fry moved Mr Pirani seconded, That the present system of assembling the teachers be discontinued aud tbat tbe instructor visit each school. Tho motion was lost, Messre Fry and Pirani voting for and Messrs Carson, Bridge, Hurley and Ross against. Mr Sanson moved and Mr Ross seconded, That M. de Mcv be asked to instruct the teachers at each centre, as well as the children. —Carried. It was also resolved that
