A New Road Route.
Mr J. Bargh is shortly to commence the laying off of a road through Messrs Guy, Matthews and Rathbone's Te Ohu Block, to connect with a road laid off on the other side of the Ruahine to the top of tbe range. This road runs through the Pohangina Valley, and stops at the lowest saddle in the range, to the north of the peak known as " The Dome." The road to be laid oft through the Te Ohu will join the main road about two miles this side of the Junction Hotel, Norsewood, and the distance to the saddle in the range will be about seven miles. Of this length the bush is felled for four miles, leaving three miles of road to be laid off through the bush to the end of the road on the otherside of the range. It is expected that a good coach road will be found, and by it the distance from Norsewood to Feilding would be about the same as from Norsewood to Woodville. This would mean a great shortening of the journey from Hawke's Bay to the Rangitikei district and when opened the road would be sure to be much used for aheep-dnving and other purposes, while this district would benefit considerably from having easy communication with such thickly settled country as that on the other side of the ranges. About 12,000 acres of the Te Ohu, on both sides of the range, are now being surveyed for settlement, aud when the sections are placed on the market they will Iront the road to be laid out, which will be the main road through the Block.
