Playford, the South-Australian representative, to be present when they discuss the Pacific cable question with the Hon. Chamberlain on Tuesday. Messrs Healy and Arthur O'Connor were expelled from tbe Parliamentary Committee by 33 to 24. The Congo Free State has paid Great Britain 150,000 francs as an idemnity for the execution of tbe British trader, Stokes. Tbe Times, commenting on the matter, demands that Major Lot baire, who ordered the execution, should be placed on trial. Sir Donald Curries attempt to settle | the strike in the ships building trade I has failed, aud there are signs of long struggle. Arrived — Steamer, Nairnsbire, from Wellington (September 26th.) Paris, Nov 15. Two French warships are aground at Hyeres in the Mediteranean. Tugs are at work endeavouring to them off. New York, Nov. 15. News has been received that a filibustering expedition from Veuezulla landed on the eastern portion of Cuba with large stores of munitions. Berlin, November 15. Horr Liebknecht, the well known socialist leader, has been sentenced to four months' imprisonment for his criticisms on Emperor William's recent attack on tbe socialists. Shanghai, November 15. A launch belonging to the H.M.S. Edgar sank while tue vessel was cruising in Japanese waters, and 48 of those on board were drowned.
