Mr Milson has just opened aphis English monthly case of the latest books, periodicals, etc. Mr R. E. Bechett will hold his usual monthly stock sale at his Marton yards to-morrow. Entries for Messrs Gorton and Son's Feilding sale on the 22nd instant are advertised to-day. Captain Edwin wired at noon to-day : — Indications for glass rising and easterly winds. The Nikau School Committee are urging the Education Board to erect a shelter shed in the school ground. Yesterday Mr Spencer took some brown trout to Cheltenham, where they were liberated in the Kiwitea stream. Mr T. Watson advertises a large block -of the best land on the Main Trunk line of railway for sale cheap and on easy terms. The next meeting of the Wanganui Education Board will commence on Monday, the 18th November, at 7.30 o'clock in the evening. A gentleman on the Feilding Ashurst road has succeeded in cultivating the pine apple under glass, and one of the plants is now fruiting. The first anniversary of the Primitive Methodist Church at Awaburi, was celebrated with a tea and public meeting last evening. According to the Chronicle, Mr J. H. Nixon, local manager of the Colonial Bank, will take charge of the Bank of New Zealand at Wanganui. A man named Thomas had the nail torn away by the roots from one of his fingers ou .Saturday while loading bales of wool on the steamer Aotea. When fowls get " the pip " any antibilious pill will effect a certain cure. The same simple remedy is efficacious in the incipient stages of distemper in a dog. To-morrow an important advertisement from the Manager of the Wellington Manawatu Railway Company in connection with wool freight will be published. A man named Henry Hughes was arrested at Puketitiri, Hawke's Bay, on Monday, on a charge of stealing a nnm ber of sheep from the Rhodes estate in that locality. The name of Wikitoria entered for the Flying Handicap of the Feilding races, was handicapped at 7 stone. This name was omitted from the list as published yesterday. A new doctor bas been induced to settle in Foxton. The committee who secured bis services stated he was recommeuded as " a thoroughly steady doctor, married and with a family." We publish with to-day's issue a pictorial supplement, containing views of Feilding, Colyton, Bulls and Marton, together with a number of views of various business places in tbe towns named. Mr R. Bryant proceeded to Wellington last evening en route for Melbourne for tbe purpose of bringing back with him tbe Eiridsforde colt, which he won in tbe St Albans' lottery. — Standard. Mr Charles Carr will bold his usual monthly stock sale at Feilding to-mor-row. Tbe privileges of tbe Feilding J.C. Spring Meeting will be sold, at the conclusion of the stock sale, in tbe Assembly Rooms. The following nominations have been received for tbe bicycle racejon Wednesday next : — J. Milson, A. E. Tbe Rey Father Power, formerly of Patea and now of Waipawa, has set a truly rare example of Christianity by returning to bis people the money be bad received from them over and above his living expenses. — Waipawa Mail. White scour in calves is said to be readily cured by tbe following : — Give the calf (according to age) a dose of castor oil. This part of tbe treatmeut is essential. Six hours thereafter, thirty grains of tannin powder in one gallon of milk, and repeat the tannin if necessary. The following team will represent Feilding in their match against Sanson at Sanson, on Saturday next : — Benson, Grant, Margeson, Bryant, W. Tompkins, Giesen, De Lisle, Broughton, J. and G. Bartholomew, Hill. Emergencies. — Fitzherbert, Garlick, Scandrett. Some time ago Mr " Kiltie " Smith gave a bull calf — somewhat of a waster he thought— to a Wood ville resident. At the show on Saturday that identical animal, now grown into a mature and portly beast, obtained a first prize, while one of the " Kilties' " particular fancies had to be content with simply " commended."—H.B. Herald. William Delahnnty, a shoemaker at Longburn, tried to cut his throat with a leather knife yesterday, but owing to its bluntness he was able to go to gaol on a charge of attempted suicide. The accused was brought up at the Police Court before Messrs Snelson and McMillan, J's.P., and remanded to Wellington for medical examination. — Standard. The following team will represent Pohangina in the Cup match against Feilding on 23rd inst : - J. G. Browne (capt.), G. Adsett, R. Browne, D. H. Roberts, S. Roberts, J. Roberts, F. Roberts, T. Taylor, A. A. Wagstaff, E. Pierard, W. Boiton, H. Grieve, McLeavey, T. Ritnmer. Tbe actual playing team will be selected on the ground, but all are requested to roll up. Dr Schwarzback, the well known oculist and aurist, who practised in New Zealand about ten years ago, and who bas since established a large practice in Sydney, is in Wellington. It is his intention to remain in New Zealand for a few months, partly for recreation and partly to meet old friends and renew acquaintance with former patients. Shortly before leaving Sydney Dr Schwarzback performed bis one-thousandth successful operation as an oculist. In connection with the formation of a cavalry corps at Kiwitea, it is notified to-day that after the meeting on Saturday next, to which the ladies have also been invited, arrangements will be made for a dance to commemorate the event. We are informed by the convener, Mr W. D. M. Banks, that he has already received the names of a number of suitable recruits. An ambulance corps is proposed to be formed after the troop has been enrolled and their services accepted by tbe Defence Minister. A cured patient writes to the chairman of tbe Wellington Trustee as follows : — " I left the Hospital last week. I really do not know how to express my gratitude to those connected with the institution. One could not meet with greater kindness if invalided amongst one's own people, and certainly could not get half the attention. And yet many of the outside public have a morbid horror of hospital ! They little know the advantages, combined with genial kindness, to be met with within those hospitable walls. A patient who could leave without feeling more than grateful must indeed be a strange specimen of humanity- I shall always retain a deep sense of obligation and gratitude to those connected witb the Wellington Hospital." Tbe writer bas been an inmate for 12 months. '
