RESIGNATION OF A' VOLUNTEER CORPS.
SETTLING THE LAND. (Per Press Association.) Brisbane, Novr. 12 The Government is throwing open 864,000 acres for selection for grazing farmers. The land is situated in the best parts of the North West portion of the Colony, and is close to the Wiuton Railway. The annual rental is fixed at 3£d per acre. Sydney, Noyr. 12. The price of flour has been raised to .£ll per ton. Arrived — Mararoa from Wellington. This Day. The Legislative Assembly dissented from the vital amendments made by the Legislative Council in the Land and Income Tax Bill, and the points in dispute were referred to a conference of managers from both chambers. The Federal Enabling Bill passed its final stages. Melbourne, November 12. The Premier has announced that the Government intended to discontinue treating the proceeds of land auctions as revenue. In future, money so obtained, and also rentals from leaseholds in the Mahee country, would be placed in a sinking fund to meet Government loans as they matured. This Day. The noncommissioned officers of the FieM Telegraph Engineers, the oldest corps in the colony, have resigned in a body as a protest against the scheme of military retrenchment being carried out by the Government.
