ANNEXATION OF BKCHUANALAND (Per Press Association.) London, Nov. 11. Mr Chamberlain has promised to expedite the construction of a railway line to Matabeleland, and to appoint officers to reside in the country. The Khatna has absolutely prohibited liquor traffic in the country under bib rule. The annexation of Bechuanaland has been formally proclaimed. The Maori King landed 113 cattle alive, but lost 5 on the voyage. A Bluebook has been published containing correspondence respecting the reduction of the salary of the Governor of South Anstralia. The Times considers the passing of the Federal Enabling Bill by the New South Wales Assembly is a hopeful sign. The Premier's concessions in regard to the income tax should, it thinks, strengthen bis position in the eyes of moderate men. The improvement in trade is in favour of federation. Capetown, Nov. 11. The Kaikoura left to-day for Hobart and Wellington.
