Grave comment is made on the action of the stewards in dismissing Mr Clark's piotest against Mischief in the Spring Handicap, it being palpable that Pear- 1 son struck Reconstruction several times over the head in the straight, the colt's j nostrils bearing distinct marks after the race. The Age maintains there was no necessity for a prolonged inquiry, and still less for the decision arrived at. In fact a distinct injustice was done to the owner of Reconstruction. Coming down the home turn in the Veteran Stakes, Royal Master, The Trier, Havoc and Chesterrnan fell. The first-named, breaking his shoulder, was destroyed. London, November 7. Paris has accepted for the Derby Cup, in which he is handicapped at fist 121 b.
