Ongo Notes.

[ From a Correspondent 1 . The country is now looking splendid, feed being plentiful and Btock in fine condition^ Improvements are going on everywhere, and the energy and enter- , prise shown by oar settlers is a good omen for the rapid advancement of this thriving and fertile district. Mr McCall is certainly deserving of great credit for the enterprising manner in which he has straggled on with his metalling contract on the Pakihiknra road. He has had many obstacles to contend against, not the least being long spells of bad weather, but he has saccessfally encountered them all ; and has in consequence earned the grateful appreciation of the settlers in this particnx lar locality. . A large quantity of sawn timber has been lying on the banks of the river, it having evidently taken French leave from the raft at the mill when the swiftly-flowing Rangitdkei was in flood. All the bush, consisting of some 600 acres, on Mr Margesson's property is down, bat owing to the want of a road that popular settler has to put up with innumerable inconveniences. King contemplates having about 800 acres of bis bush down shortly, this industrious settler being determined to keep in the van of pro* erress.
