The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1895. PROPERTY OF LUNATICS.
The Lunatics Act Amendment Bill, which was passed during the dying hours of the session will commend itself to everyone who sympathises with the unfortunate insane. The Bill provides for the administration of a lunatic's estate by the Public Trustee from the time when the cominital of the lunatic whose estate would be administered deprives the property of the care of its owner, and without the sanction of the Supreme Court being necessary, as hitherto to every step. The object of the Act is to provide a direct, prompt, and efficient administration by the Public Trustee, as well as to save to the small estates, with which be usually has to deal, the expense of the reference to the Court, where such a reference may be safely dispensed with. The interests of the beneficiares are safe-guarded by the proviso that no sale of property over £500 in value shall take place without the consent of the Supreme Court. Upon the death of a lunatic the Public Trustee will be admistrator until probate or administration has been granted.
