— ' O , # . A meeting of ratepayers was held in the school house, Rangiwahia,*on Satur; . day last, to receive a report, amongst other business, from Messrs F. Pemberton and A. Morgan, who were appointed a committee to interview theKiwitea County Council and the Minister of Lands on the matter of getting Kimbolton road put in a better state 61 repair before next winter. There were apout thirty ratepayers present, and Mr J. Stent was voted to the chair, and called on Mr Pemberton to submit the result of his and Mr Morgan's interview with the Connty Council and Minister of Lands. Mr Pemberton said they (the deputa?. tion) had interviewed the County Gomt* cil at its last meeting with reference to . the state of roads in that part of the; district, bnt got nothing. With refeV rence to their getting a councillpr to gb with them to Wellington, Cr Reid, the chairman, promised to go if he cbuld, and Cr Homer said he would go if Cr Beid did not, bnt neither of them Went, the latter through the illness of his wife. He and Mr Morgan had to go to Wellington without the petition, as Mr Beid had taken it away from the Council's office, and had neglected to send it to them when he (Mr Beid) had advised them of his inability to; go with the deputation to interview the Minister of Lands. They saw Mr J. Stevens, M.H.R. for Bangitikei, and explained fully to him their requirements- Mr Stevens introduced them to the Minister of Lands, before whom he laid their ease. The Minister promised to write to the County Council and see what they intended to do in the matter, and led them to be* lieve the Government would assist in the matter. After the interview Mr Stevens expressed the opinion that they could rely on something being done ai the Minister had received them very favorably. • It was resolved, That a vote: of thanks be accorded to Messrs Pemberton and Morgan for their services in going, to Feilding and Wellington. A levy was made on those ratepayers who expressed their willingness to contribute to th 6 expenses of the deputation, and Messrs Moffatt and Lay were appointed to collect the levy. Mr F. Pemberton suggested that they should watch the proceedings of the next meeting of the Kiwitea County Council, and, if that body did nothing they (the ratepayers) should write either direct to the Minister of Lands, or to him through the member for the district. The question of forming a Ratepayers' Association was considered.] It was decided, on the motion of Mr J. J.'Bryce, seconded by Mr T. Mofiatt, That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable that a Ratepayers' Association should be formed to protect the iatereata of ratepayers. On the motion of Mr Bryce, seconded by Mr Boabier, it was resolved, That Messrs J. D. McGregor, J. Stent, C. Fil* ton, F. Pemberton, and A. Morgan, be a Provisional Committee to draw up rules, three to form a quorum. Also, that this committtee have power to , deal with matters concerning the welfare of the Apiti and Hautapu ridings until such time as the permanent committee be. . appointed. ,- ; '.
