The Monowai sailed this afternoon for 'Frisco, taking 28 saloon and 21 steerage passengers. Major Te Wheoro, ths well-known Waikato chief, died at his settlement. The Agricultural Show was largely attended, notwithstanding the drizzling showers in the early part of the day. A. and J. McFarlane Bros, of Taieri, Otago, got the championship in cattle for Ayrshires, and a large number of prizes for dairy produce. Wblungtoit. Nov. 2. Sir Patrick Buckley is improving, but Mr Cadman is no batter, being unable to obtain sleep. The Premier, Hons. MeKenzie and Carroll will viwt the Christchurch show next week. The Chief Justice delivered judgment this morning in the Napier case of- Whittington v. Cohen, an action by plaintiff under the Local Bodies Contractors Act for refund to Napier Hospital Trustees of moneys paid to defendant while trustee for supply of goods and for penalties. His Honor gave judgment for defendant with costs aocordiog to scale. A narrow escape from drowning occurred last night. Mr Clapham, a gold miner of Blenheim, while attempting to board the Penguin en rente for Lyttelton, fell between the vessel and the wharf. He was resetted after some difficulty and to day is in a fair way of recovery.
