Manchester Road Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Board's office on Saturday last. Present — Messrs Lethbridge, (chairman), Con way Wheeler, Pearce and Booth. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : From Mr E. Schwass stating that he had received a letter from Mr Sandilands dated October 17, re reputed damage to McCrea's road, and stating that he was willing to assist others in making the necessay repairs, when the dry weather set in. — Left in the hands of the Engineer to find out the names of the other carters using the road. From Messrs Abraham and Williams enclosing cheque for £4 17s 8d for tolls on sheep taken through the Gorge Ferry and stating that they had struck out items for horses. From Treasury Department stating that the sum of £85, a further loan had been placed to the Board's account at the Bank of New Zealand. From Land and Survey Department re re-erecting bridge over the Manawatu River at the lower end of Gorge, and stating that the ( matter would be considered in the Estimates for the carrent year ; also informing the Board that a warrant under the hand of His Excellency the Governor is pnblisbed in the Gazette, authorising the Maoawatu Road Board to construct a bridge over Stoney Creek, and apportioning tbe cost between the Manawatu and Manchester Road Boards, viz, one half to be borne by each Road Board respectively. From Jas. W. Wallace, of Wallace & MacKie, Wellington, re contract tor iron bark stating that if favoured with the order, the price would be 23s 6d per 100 feet. From Murray. Arnold and Co. re enquiry for ironbark, and stating that they could deliver pieces required, at Wellington for 22s per 100 ft. — Tender afterwards withdrawn. From the Colonial Treasurer, informing tbe Board that tbe £420 loan for erection of bridge over tbe Mangaone Creek is now available, and that the total amount, or any portion required by tbe Board would be paid on application : also informing the Board that a voucher had passed the Audit for the payment of £85, being the amount of a further loan to construct road and bridging Makino stream in No. 4 sub-division, and that the amount would be paid in a few days. From H. W. Simes, re damage received by him by bis horse falling oi»a defective bridge, and wanting to know what the Board intended do. From G. C. Hill, Town Clerk, Feilding Borough Council, forwarding £29 3s 7d, amount of Board's . claim against that Council for maintaining Menzies Bridge, and asking that in future an annual statement giving details of tbe expenditure be furnished. From Chas. J. Wycherly, asking for permission to put a hitching post for horses in front of his new premises at Ashurst. — Granted. From Thos. B. Crump, asking that Mrs Annie R. Russell be placed on the rate roll in place of Mr Jas. Harvey for suburban sections 71, 72, 73 Ashurst, — Granted. From T. Leineweber, requesting that the name of Charles Crabb, of Halcombe, be placed on the rate roll in place of his for section 10, Halcombe suburban. — Alteration made. From David Orr, Ashurst, in reference to a letter he wrote to the Board on September 6th re a creek running through his property on the Bunnythorpe road, and asking the Board to inform him why it was not brought before tbe last meeting. Resolved, That on and after November 11th, the Clerk be instructed to sue for all outstanding rates without further notice ; also that no further work be undertaken until these rates are collected. Resolved, That the Board is willing to allow the Engineer to make arrangements with Mr Orr re creek. Mr Chas. Can waited on the Board and stated that shortly be intended to bring about 6000 sheep through the Mauawatu Gorge and requesting a reduction be made in the tolls. Resolved, That the toll on sheep crossing the Lower Gorge Ferry remain as at present for any number not exceeding one thousand ; that for eyery sheep beyond that number the charge be £d. That the toll for horses and great cattle remain as at present for any number not exceeding fifty, and that for every additional horse or head of cattle beyond that number the charge be b*d. Resolved, That Mr Jensen be allowed to put an additional 60yds of metal on Nannested's road in terms of his agreement with the chairman. Accounts amounting to £270 were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
