A Wellington Sensation.
ARREST OF A WELL-KNOWN FOOTBALLER. ___ The case of the young woman who died some time since at Palmerston North under circumstances which were regarded at the coroner's inquest as suspicious, has been engaging the attention of the Wellington detectives for several weeks past. Careful enquiries have been made, and as a result Detective Neill on Tuesday night arrested a man named John Henry Brown, describing himself as a doctor, and his wife, Annie Brown, on a charge of procuring abortion. The accused were brought before the Court yesterday morning and remanded, Yesterday Mr Tom Elison, the well-Known footballer, also solicitor, was arrested in connection with the affair. He was brought before the Court and remanded.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, October 30. The police to-day searched the premises here that had been occupied by Brown, arrested in Wellington on a charge of performing an illegal operation. They seized about 200 letters and a lot of drugs and instruments, which will be sent in charge of an officer to Wellington.
