The Treasurer and the Wellington Post.
AN ACTION THREATENED. (Per Press Association). Wellington, This Day. On the House meeting this morning, Mr R. Thompson asked the Treasurer whether he had seen a paragraph in last night's Post to the effect that Mr Ward had met Mr Murray (late General Manager of the Bank of N.Z.) on board the Hauroto, and that Mr Ward's statement to the contrary was absolutely untrue. — Mr Ward said the statement in the paper was absolutely untrue, and diametrically opposed to fact. He might say he had given instructions to a solicitor in Wellington to take action. Mr Ward then read voluminous correspondence upon the subject, including letters from Messrs Henry Mackenzie, Watson, and Murray, all of whom denied Mr Ward had met Mr Murray in their company, as had been alleged. — Correspondence between Mr Duthie (who had made the original statement in the House) and Mr Ward was also read — Mr Ward said he had made no reflection on Mr Duthie, whom he regarded as an honorable man, but he had been incorrectly informed. — Mr Duthie said he was informed by two respectable citizens that Mr Vv'ard had met Mr Murray on his arrival, and he was also informed that Mr Ward had been seen conversing on the Hauroto with Mr Murray, — Mr Ward absolutely denied he had conversed with Mr Murray on the occasion, and said he would give the persons who had made that statean opportunity of repeating it in another place. Mr Ward's motion that the correspondence on the subject be laid on the table of the House was carried by 32 to 14.
