Rangiwahia Notes.

(by a correspondent.) The very bad winter we have experienced has bad no serious effect upon lambing, except where sheep have been retarded from getting sufficient fodder by the thickness of felled and standing timber. In most cases the lambing percentage this year was in excess of last year. I hear of from 80 to 100 per cent being obtained all round, and as high as 140 per cent has been obtained by Mr Galpin, of Boston creek. This speaks speaks volumes for Mr Galpin 's management, and the grazing facilities of his farm. .Last Friday evening, Mrs Goodwin, the popnlar proprietress of the Rangiwahia Hall, gave a nice little dance. Both sexes rolled up in good numbers, and kept the evening lively by constant., dancing, which was carried on till the small hours of morn. Mrs Goodwin also supplied refreshments. Mr Sextus, of Bluff road, supplied the music, while Mr J. Clements acted as M.C. Mr S. Daw has, during the winter, been compelled to leave his coach a few miles distant from here on account of the very bad state of the roads, but now the fine weateer has set in, he manages, although attended with great risk, to drive right " home " as he calls it* It has been definitely decided to hold the annual oricket ball on the. Bth of November, when a large number of persons from all parts of the district are expected to pace the floor. There is even in our back country keen competition for work, as was revealed by the opening of tenders for Mi? R. E. Beckett's bushfelling of about one hundred and eighty acres. The successful tenderers were — Mr W. Brows, No. Block 1 ; Mr A. Theobald, No. 2; Messrs Listed and Woodcocks, No. 3. There is some talk of a public debate coming off at an early date between members of the I.O'G.T. and the liquor traffic men of this place. The .subject has not yet been chosen.
