DEFEAT OP ZIMMERMAN IN FIVE-MILE CONTEST. (PBB PKBSS ASSOCIATION) Adelaide, Oct. 26. At the South Australian Cycling Association Carnival the principal events resulted as follows: — Half-mile Scratch Eace. — Zimmerman, 1; Parsons, 2; Courtenay, 3. Won comfortably by a couple of lengths Time, lmin 6 l-sth sees, which is the Australian record. Five-mile Scratch Race.— -Parsons, 1 ; Zimmerman, 2. Six started. Parsons led to the home stretch where Zimmerman rushed to the front, but Parsons, with a magnificent spnrt, overhauled him, and amid the greatest excitement won by about four yards. The pace was a cracker throughout, and the other starters were beaten off. Time, 12min 20sec. The crowd was bo excited that they rushed the ground and carried Parsons off in triumph. Parsons also won the Mile Open Handicap, Zimmerman being scratched, also for the two-mile, as he was not in good form. One-mile Championship of S. Australia.—Buiok, 1; Baker, 2; Gully, 3. Time, 2min 27 2-sth sees. This Day. Zimmerman, interviewed, said he had been suffering severely since Thursday, and was very weak, He would not have taken any part in the Carnival, bat did not wish to disappoint the public. Parsons, he considers, is a splendid rider, and though he did not want to detract from his victory, he was confident when he got into proper form he would be able to turn the tables. This he thought would be when he met Parsons in Sydney. Parsons was also interviewed. He admits .Zimmerman was not at his best, and expresses the opinion that he can beat the American even when well. He (Parsons) was presented with several cheques by admirers. Zimmerman will aot compete in handicap races.
