United Farmers' Alliance.
A meeting of shareholders was held at the Club Hotel yesterday for the purpose of confirming the resolution in favor of amalgamation with the M.F.C.A. There were about 25 shareholders present, and Mr Martin, chairman of directors, presided. The Chairman said the effect of the amalgamation wonld be to make the combined Association the strongest company in the North Island. He moved the motion confirming the resolution passed in regard to the amalgamation, and the liquidation of the Farmers' Alliance.— Seconded by Mr O'Brien. Mr R. B. McKenzie said the opinion of shareholders was almost unanimous as to the desirableness of amalgamation. In answer to Mr A. P. Knight, the Chairman said he did not anticipate the shares would be written down to less than Jt'3 in value. Mr Milverton, jnr., moved as an amendment that the meeting be adjourned until the annual meeting for production of the balance-sheet. — Seconded by Mr Newdick. The amendment was lost by 12 to 10. The motion was also lost by 13 to 10, but by the proxies was carried by 301 to 15. — Standard.
