♦ (Per Press Association.) INVERCAEGIIiL, Oct. 21. General Booth leaves for Melbourne tomorrow. Messrs Burstow and T. 0. Hunter have concluded their cycling tour, of New Zealand, and leave for Tasmania to-mor-row. Dunedin, October 21. A young man named Arthur New has been arrested ou a charge of embezzling money from the till of his late employers. Robert Telf ord Elliot, a farmer is missing from Tapanui. His footsteps have been traced to the banks of the Pomahaka river. New Plymouth, October 21. The bore at the petroleum works at Amaka is now down to a depth of 1425 feet without result. The plant is to be removed to Motnrua, where oil deposits are known to exist. Gxsborne, Oct. 17. The Gisborne Brewing and Malting Company commenced brewing today. The brewery and the malt kiln of brick are constructed on the most modern principles, and fitted with the latest up-to-date appliances. Napißr, Oct. 21. The body of the missing man, William Rose, was seen floating in the Tutaekuri river to-day, and was secured when it reached a bridge. Auckland, Oct. 21. A daring attempt at burglary was made at Onehunga on Saturday night. At a late hour several youths who had a cart, were, it is said, discovered trying to break into Fisher's store. As soon as the youths were disturbed they made off. Christchcrch,. October 21. At a meeting of the City Council tonight the Cemetery Committee submitted a report with respect to the interrupted funeral at the public cemetery a few Sundays ago. It was decided to send a letter to Bishop Grimes regretting the breach of the regulations in the Catholic portion of the cemetery, and to ask for written instructions from each religious denomination as to the regulations to be observed with regard to the burials.
