♦ (Per Press Association.} Wellington, October 18. The crew of the barque George Thomson, which was reported fit for sea by Capt. Allman, publish a letter in the Post alleging that they believe their lives to be in danger, as she makes eight and nine inches of water per day while resting in port and has too heavy a deck load. They also deny that Capt. Allman could have properly inspected the rigging as he did not go aloft here. Auckland, Oct. 20. A crushing of three tons of ore sent from the Wangarei district to Thames absolutely proved the stone to be gold bearing. The value of the gold obtained from the parcel wbs £4 9s, the yield being half an ounce per ton. The working capital for the Thames deep level is £125,000, and fche mines are to be worked by a company. The month's yield in Hauraki mine amounts 23190z of gold, worth £7000. The yield for the year is £28,000. Christchurch, October 20. Rain, which was very much needed, set in from the south west last night, and there have been frequent showers to-day.
