Social at Apiti.
A social was held in Mr Guy's hall, Apiti, last evening, to celebrate the opening of the new cheese factory which will be ready to receive milk on Monday next for the first time. Mr E. Nix acted j us chairman. The following ladies and gentlemen contributed to the programme :— Mr W. F. Elkington gave the " Laughing song," and responded to an encore with " Bye-and-bye " ; Miss Buckman sang " Caller Ou " ; Mr Clapliam and McGuire gave the duet " Larboard watch " ; Mr E. Potueroe sang " Monte Carlo " and " Belle J'lahone " ; Miss Carter sang " Au Revoir " : Mr A. B. Pettigrew danced Shauntreus, sword dance, and Highland fling ; Mr Clapham sang " Killarney " ; Mr Hargreaves gave the song " True till death." Dancing was kept up till a late hour this morning. The attendance was very large, and the collection made at the door resulted in a net return, after all expenses are paid, .£3, which will be handed over to the cemetery trustees. Messrs G. Buckman and F. Pawson acted as M.C's and the music was supplied by Mr E. Curreen.
