Wanganui Education Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Wanganai Education Board commenced lasc evening. Present — Messrs Carson (chairman), Sanson, Bridge, Baker, and Fry. After the ordinary routine business had been dealt with the Board went into Committee to consider the following appointments : — Ashurst — From Committee accepting Mr Andrew, of Karere, as head master ; appointed. Terrace End — From Committee re appointment of first assistant master ; resolved to advertise for a first assistant master in the Palmerston, Wanganui, Hawern, Feilding, and Marion papers. Feilding — From Ml- H. J. Carter, assistant master, resigning ; resignation accepted, the Board expressing regret at the cause. It was resolved to advertise at once for a first assistant master. — From S. J. Watkin, pupil teacher, resigning ; resignation accepted. Campbelltown — From Ernest Edwards applying for appointment as cadet; appointed. From E. Hill, applying for leave of absence; granted. Makino Road— From Alexander Sutherland, applying for cadetship ', appointed to Malcino. Feilding — Miss Gertrude Watts appointed pupil teacher. Manjjaweka — From Committee objecting to Mr Bowden's removal ; resolved to allow him to remain till after the teachers examinationsTiritea — From Committee selecting Mr J. O. Lilly as teacher; appointed. Beef Creek — From Mr Stansell, applying for leave of absence ; granted. Halcombe— From A. i»mal!, applying for extension of leave ; granted. Several other miuor matters having been dealt with, the Board resumed and the Chairman reported on the result of the visit of the deputation (Messrs Carson and Bridge) to Wellington. The; report, which was as follows, was adopted : — We beg to report that in accordance with the Hoard's instructions, we interviewed Messrs E. M. Smith, F. McGuire, A. D. Willis, J. Stevens, F. Pirani and J. G. Wilson, members for the West CoList constituencies, iu Wellington last mouth, and alter a lony conversation waited Avith them upon the Minister for Education, who stated that ho recognised the claims oi' the districts ou the West Coast, and would endeavour to so divide the buildings grant that the Wanganui Board should receive a larger share of the vote than it received last year. He suggested to the Minister that ho should require from all Boards not only a bare statement of the estimated cost of new buildings, but also information as to the distance of proposed new schools from existing schools, the estimated attendance, etc. The Minister seemed to agree that this was desirable, and we promised that this information should be supplied with the schedule showint' our wants. We would therefore recommend that in sending our schedule this year, the above information should be supplied and that a sum of money should be put in as the estimated requirement for painting, repairs and maintenance." The Board then adjourned until 10 o'clock next morning. Chronicle.
