(Per Press Association.) Wellington, October 10. A man named George Green has been arrested on a charge of having abducted a girl named Jessie Goudie from port Adelaide on 17th April last. The Golf tournament was resumed today. The handicap resulted in a win for Mr W. Pryde, of Wellington. In the afternoon the Inter Island match was played and the North Island won easily. A lad named Reuben Aybe, engaged at the Commercial Travellers' Club, fell through a skylight to-day on to a floor 13 feet below. He was seriously injured, and it is feared he has sustained concussion of the brain. He was removed to the hospital. The deputation re the Maugaweka Bridge waited on the Minister of Lands and presented the petition, and were favourably received. The Minister was personally in favour of it, and will submit to the Cabinet at an early date. The deputation secured a section for the town hall and made arrangements for the cemetery. Cheistchcech, October 11. News from tbe Chatham Islands by the Eahu states that Jessie Haigb a balf-caste, committed suicide by hanging on Oct. 4th. At tbe inquest a verdict of temporary insanity was returned. The Committee of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce agreed with the resolution of the Dunedin Chamber regarding the abolition of the preferential position held by the landlords in bankruptcy estates, but deferred taking action till the next session of Parliament.
