LATEST TRAINING NOTES.
Flemington, October 10. After his inglorious display at Epsom Rewi was driven back to 40 to 1 for the Melbourne Cup. There was a run on Preston during the day but it toned down in the Victorian Club Rooms last night when 100 to 10 were laid against him for the Caulneld Cap, though difficult to obtain towards the close. Odds all round were a shade easier, 1400 to 200 being laid against Hopscotch. At Flemington this morning Newman lost Creme dOr over a mile, negotiated in lmin 44^ sec ; Crest 4 * traversed a mile in lmin 46^sec ; Chester man ran a mile and a half in 2min 47£ se c; Bruin ran a mile in 1 rnin 47|sec ; Hova, taking matters very comfortably, galloped a mile in lmin 49sec. Melbourne, October 10. Betting was stagnant during the day. At Caulneld this morning Burrabri, with a light weight up, traversed a mile and a half in 2min 42£ sec. Bonnie Scotland wound up the same distance in 2min 46sec. Bessie McCarthy and Sternchaser left for New Zealand by the steamer Wakatipu yesterday.
