H.M. Stanley in a New Bole.
Mr Stanley has been among th%most assiduous of new members in his attendance on Parliamentary duties. On Wednesday he was rewarded by finding opportunity of making his maiden speech upon the question of slavery in Africa, with which he is thoroughly acquainted, and upon which he speaks with authority. The matter of his speech will be regarded with varied feelings, according to personal view and political conviction. There is no doubt the manner of delivery made it a distinct success, and gave promise that in the great explorer the House of Commons has made an acquisition of the kind it highly prizes, viz., to wife a man who will talk to it instead of making speeches at it. Mr Stanley's appearance as he stood up below the gangway was striking, even picturesque. His hair, though white as snow, is still abundant. His face is ruddy, his eyes bright and fall of expression. The light summer suit he wore well became him. He has a good voice, which filled the House without effort and Ihe speaks in conversational tone suited to his unconventional oratorical style.— London correspondent.
