Mr Forrest, of Queensland, called a meeting of the leading Australian beef-im-porters, including the Weddells, Bacres, Nelson's Colonial (Jons^grm&erbt Co., the Titters, Mcllivtaiths, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency and Messrs Ytiill and Bergl. The meeting decided to combine, and not sell beef- under 2s 6d for hindquarters, and Is 10 for fore* quarters. Failing to obtain these prices today, the above mentioned firms withdraw their beef from the Smithfield sales. Those outside tbe combination are selling at 2s 5d for hindquarters and Is 9d for forequarters. The Manchester City News gives currency to the report that London importers intend to flood the Manchester meat market when there is any prospect of the direct Australian meat trade being opened up, and says, therefore, that it is necessary that the public should take action to fight greedy monopolists. Brisbane, This Day. Meat shippers have decided to give support to the combination of English vendors who are seeking to establish a minimum price. Sydney, This Day. The dispute in the fat stock trade is finally settled. The arbitrators found tbe purchasing firm in error. They admit and accept the award.
