Concert at Cheltenham.
A very successful concert was held in tbe new public hall at Cheltenham last evening, the building, which was constructed to seat about 240 persons, was packed and there must have been at least 300 present., including a number of visitors from Feildine, Birmingham and Colyton. A lengthy programme was gone through, the several items being well received. The opening piece wai the grand march " Des Flambeaux " by Miss Hitch (organ) and Mr Coventry (piano). Mr H- Templer sang " True till Death " and as an encore " Queen of the Earth." Mrs A. Mcßeth sang " Love the Highwayman." Mr A. C. Matheson gave " True to the Last." Mr D. Rosa danced the Sword dance, and being encored responded with the Highland fling. Mr A. G. Carty sang " The Mighty Deep." Misses L. and A. Roe sang the duet " The Hunter's Song," which was encored. Mr W. F. Elkington gave the comic song " Ball Headed Swell," and as an encore " Where did you get that Hat." Miss Diamond sang " The two Pictures." Mr H. S. Moss recited " The Last Shot." Mrs Prior sang " The Miller and the Maid," and Mr Baynes " Big Ben." The second part was also opened with an overture by Miss Hitch and Mr Coventry. Mr Carty sang " Anchored." Misses L. and A. Roe gave the duet " In the Starlight." Mr H. S. Moss recited "In the Signal Box." Miss Diamond sang " Knocking at the Garden Gate," and " Love Tide " as an encore. Mrs Prior sang " Needles and Pins," and Mr R. C. Templer " The Gauntlet." Mr R. S. Fowler gave the comic recitation " Ben and the Butter," and sang " Who'd have thought; it " as an encore. The accompaniments were played by Miss N. Roe, Miss M. Shannon, and Messrs Coventry and Bayne. The chairman, Mr W. Jones, expressed the pleasure the trustees of the hall felt at seeing such a large attendance, and at the conclusion of the concert proposed a vote of thanks to those who had contributed to the programme and to the ladies who had assisted in other ways. The trustees have every reason to be gratified with their efforts as the result of last night's concert will return a substantial amount towards liquidating the debt which still remains on the hall. At the conclusion of the concert a dance was held, the attendance also being large. The music was supplied by Mr Haybittle's string band, and dancing was kept up till a late hour this morning.
