I Q _^. FIEST PRIZE WON BY THE WELLINGTON BAND. (Per Press Association.) Timaku, Oct. 4. Tbe band contest was brought to a close at 20 tnin. to 12 to-night, when the second contest piece by Ilalevy was played. The theatre was crowded to excess, and tbe result, as follows, was received with great cheering : — First prize, LIOO — Wellington Garrison Band, 150 points. Second, L6O — Invercargill City Guards, points 148. Third, L3o— Kaikorai Brass Band, 144 points. Fourth, L10 — Timarn Garrison, 136 points. The other bands were Dunedin Navals 135 ; Oamaru Navals, 131 ; Stanmore 130 ; Oamaru Garrison 129 ; Canterbury Engineers, 128 ; Waimate, 125 ; Christchurch Garrison 122 ; Sydenham 117. Later. The solo competitions were completed this morning. The prize-winners were : — B-flat or A cornets (17 entries) — E. Derry, Christchurch Garrison, 1 ; Glennie, Invereargill, 2,- Gordon, Cbristcburcb. Engineers, 3. E-flat soprano cornets (9)— L. Gunner, Christchurch Ganison, 1 ; Hatton, Timaru, 2 ; MeGlassan, Eaikorai, 3. Tenor horn (11) H. Davie, Eaikorai, 1 ; Morton, Invereargill, 2; Nicholson, Wellington, 3. Baritones (7) — F. Forbes, Invereargill, 1 ; Williamson, Christchurch, 2 ; Leslie, Oamaru, 3. Trombones (7) — W.
