♦ ■ (Per Press Association.) New Plymouth, This DayA smart and rather prolonged shock of earthquake was felt at a quarter to one this morning. There have been also several slight tremors of the earth since last night. Chkistchurch, October 2. At the Magistrate's Court to-day J. Kennedy, licensee of the Sandridge Hotel, and C. Klingenstein, licensee of the A 1 Hotel, were charged with Sunday trading. Decision in both cases wag reserved till tomorrow. Wellington, October £. The Governor and Mr G. E. Tolhurst have eacli given iIOO towards the Cathedral Fund, which now stands at £2586. TIMARTT, Oct. 2. At the band contest to-day, the eolos took from 9.30 a.m. till 11.15 p.m., and is not finished. The results will be known on Friday. The quickstep competition is to be held to-morrow.
