The Sydney Poisoning Sensation.

MR MEAGHER IN REPLY. HE DENIES THAT DEAN CONFESSED. (Per Press Association.) Sydney. October 1. The Assembly was densely packed today to hear Mr Meagher's reply to Sir Julian Salomons' statements. He said he had not spoken before because he desired to answer fully, dispassionately, and explicitly. Dean never in his life mado any confession to him, and he (Mr Meagher) never made any confession to Sir Julian Salomons. He denied the statements categorically as false and wicked fabrications. He did not believe that Sir Julian Salomons'would wilfully, calmly, and sanely endeavor to set up the fabrication, and therefore could only say the statement was that of a man who was a creature of uncontrollable mental impulse — the outcome of mental affliction, which it was well-known periodically took possession of Sir Julian Salomons' prolific brain. He thoroughly believed Dean was innocent, and always had done what he could for him, and he was prepared to do so again in the interests of justice and humanity. The Attorney-General had stated that he believed from tbe information he bad received that Sir Julian Salomon's statements were true and Dean was guilty. It was the Attorney-General's duty to * produce this evidence, and, said Mr Meagher, if he did not do so he would denounce him as an arch conspirator.
