LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, October 1. The Council met at 2.30. The Alcoholic Liquor Sale Control Bill was read a first time. Hon. Sir P. Buckley moved the second reading of the Customs and Excise Duties Bill. Hon. Mr Reynolds objected to the Bill, which he said was not based on any principle whatever and appeared to him to be a conglomeration of ill considered ideas. Hon. Mr Pharazyn felt quite sure the average man would not consider the new tariff as either just or expedient and would go far to destroy the Government and the so called Liberal party, who were responsible for it. The debate was adjourned and the Council rose till next day.
