Correspondence. SEPTEMBER WEATHER, 1895.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAB. ' Sir,— The rainfall for the past month was 3-49 inches (as against 2*14 inches in September, 1894) of which 2-24 inches fell during the last ten days of the month. Bain fell on thirteen days, and the heaviest fall in one day was I*3o inches registered at 9.30 a.m. on the 24th. Frost was registered on the 2nd (26 degrees), lath (32 degrees), and 27th (30 degrees). The mean temperature of the month at 9.30 a.m was 50-13 degrees, and the maximum 58*40. The month was remarkable for the fine, bright, and almost summer weather, which occurred between the 12th and 20th in contrast to the rainy and wintry weather we experienced during the last ten days of the month. There was a thunderstom in the afternoon of the 7th, and a very heavy one during the night of the 10th, when at a little before 3 a.m. I heard the loudest clap of thunder I have during my long life ever heard. I am, etc., SAMIi. GOODBEHERE. Feilding, Ist October, 1895.
