London Wool Market.

* CONTINUED ADVANCE IN PRICES. The N.Z.L. and M.A. Company Ltd. wool report dated London, 14th August, 1895. — The usual relaxation of activity in this market consequent upon the close of the public auctions has been further marked by the incidence of the August holidays. Nevertheless a fair amount of enquiry has prevailed. The results, however, have not been proportionate to the demand which has been for the most part directed towards those classes of staple which were in eager request during the late series and which were consequently sold out. Holders of fresh parcels, moreover, are naturally not desirous of anticipating the next public sales in the fact of the present strong position and favorable prospects of the wool market. The volume of trade for the past seven months of the current year shows clearly the paramount importance of the American revival in trade as regards the recent expansion which has taken place in the export of woollen textiles from Great Britain, thus showing that the increased consumption which has been noticeable during the current year in our manufacturing districts and which has had so favorable an effect upon the price of the raw article in our market represents at any rate so far as this country is concerned the fulfilment of genuine orders. Under date 26th September, Messrs Dalgety and Co. London, cable as follows to their Wellington agents, Messrs Levin and Co :— Since ouv last telegram prices of wool are, on the average, 5 per cent, higher. The market is excited, and everyone with the exception of the Americans, want to buy.' Although prices seem high, yet we think they may advance still further, and there is no symptom at present of an immediate decline. Sheepskins in general are Id per lb higher than at date of our last advices. |PebPbess Association.] London, September 27. At the wool sales there is strong competition for good qualities and' prices were well maintained. * " ' September 28. There is brisk competition for sheepskins; 5059 bales were offered at the sales and 4982 were sold. Eull woollen merinos and crossbreds showed an advance of fd ; short combings and lambs, from a |d to $d.
