Messrs Levin and Co. have received from their London agents, Messrs Dalgety and Co., Limited, the following cablegram, dated 24th September : -The wool sales opened' today with a very large attendance of buyers. There was a fair selection of wools, and the competi. tion was very animated Prices are 10 to 20 per pent higher than the ojosing rates of last series. The demand is chiefly for greasy merino medium oomb* ing wool*! and for lustrous crossbreds; for merino fleece clotbing wools the competition is irregular. English and Continental buyers are the principal operators. American buyers are purchasing scarcely anything. The total quantity of colonial wool available is 225,000 bales. We are informed, aaye a Palrnerston paper, that » settler in this district has netted £50$ over the recent 'r}se in the price of wool, his last year's shipment having been disposed of at the late sales &t a highly aaftisfactory price.
