(Per Press Association.) ICiiristchukch, Sept. 18. A young mm named Barry Chetwynd, staying in a boarding honse in Manchester street, was found yesterday bleeding from two wounds in tho left bronst. ITe stated that he had tried to commit suicide. He was taken to the hospital and is making satisfactory progress. Gukymoutii, Sept. 21. The Harbor Board stop all work in a week, thereby throwing 70 men out of employment. Captain Falconer finds that the wreck of the Thurso is bedded in grayel, and the task of blowing her up will now be dilhcult. Some rich alluvial ground has been struck in the Blackball district. Auckland, Sept 21. An old colonist, Mr Johu Holmes, a shipbuilder is dead, aged 77 years. R. Y. Stokes, an old identity at Hamilton, was sitting on top of a verandah painting the hoards beneath the eaves when suddenly ho dropped dead from heart disease. He was formerly a lieutenant iv the 4th Waikato Regiment. He is l-cportcd to have seen a good deal of service in India. The residence of Joseph Marsden at Ruataugata, has been burnt down. Tbe house aud furniture were insured in the National ofiice for I*lso.
