Bootmakers' Conference.
♦ (Per Press Association), Chbistchubch, September 17. The following representatives of New Zealand Federated Bootmakers are now in Christchurch : — Miles, Dean and Binnie, of Wellington ; Milligan, Osborne and Darlow, of Christchuich ; Arnold, Fergusson and Nagle, of Dunedin ; McNaity, Invercargill. Mr Arnold has been appointed chairman. The object of the gathering is to discuss matters in connection with federation in particular, and the position of affairs in regard to the statement which is to be discussed at the conference with employers next week. The representatives of the boot manufacturers' Association are expected to arrive on Tuesday, when the conference will probably begin. At a meeting the delegates representing 900 members, resolved to send the following telegram to the Colonial Treasurer ; — " Congratulate the J Government on the last proposals of the tariff, but think that the proposals made by the boot trade should be considered, and the principle given effect to. If it is found impossible to do so they would strongly urge the present tariff as proposed by the Government."
