4.J.C. SPRING MEETING. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, Sept. 17. The weather to-day is overcast and threatening, but the rain cleared off before the races began and the afternoon turned out fine. Results : — Shorts Handicap, 6 furlongs — Water fall 1, Dalmny 2, Doris 3. Eighteen starters. Close finish. Time, lmin lß.Vsec. Spring Maiden Stakes, 1| mile's— Rewi 1, Onward 2, Inspiration 3. Ten others started. Won very easily. Time, 2uiin 4lssec. Metropolitan Stakes, Is miles—Nobleman 1, Woodford 2, Ruenalf 3. All started with the exception of Reolus, Delaware and Mahee. Won by two lengths. Woodford came very fast and disposed of Rvienatf , bat could aofc catch the leader. Time, 2min 40sec. New Stakes, 1 mile —Vivian 1, Mannlichcr 2. Form 3. Other starters - Loch Leigh, Valiant, Redavini. Time, lmin 46sec. Steeplechase, 2| miles— Waterbury 1, Ballyhooley 2, Spanker 3. Twelve started. The bulk of the field fell before they got round. Waterbury kept in the front division all the way but neatly spoiled his übance at the last fence. For the moment he looked like running off, but negotiated at the tail end of the obstacle. He recovered the lost ground with a fast run and romped home as he pleased. Time, smin 42sec. Squatters Handicap, 1£ miles — Hindoo 1, Zozomarina 2, Messmate 3. Ten started. Won easily. Time,2min 14sec. Melbourne, Sept. 17 Two records have been established on the Flemington track. Bruin ran five furlongs in lmin 4^sec and Grandwing 3 furlongs in 37£ sec.
