Lower Gorge Bridge.

o A fairly-attended meeting of ratepayers was held at Ashurst last evening to con aider the reconstruction of the lower gorge bridge. Mr Cotter, who presided, addressed the meeting, as, also, did Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge (chairman of the Manchester Road Board) and Mr A. Con way (a member of the Road Board). The following resolution was passed on (he motion of Mr Bumble, seconded by Mr Scearle :— " That seeing the importance of this bridge, it being the key to the east and west coasts, and that the country is pnt to great expense in building the gorge bridge and constructing the Gorge Road, which would be useless unless the lower bridge is re-erected, the Govt. be requested to re erect the bridge and take over the control and tnaintainence of the Gorge Road and collect a toll to recoup the cost. That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the member for this district, Mr Stevens (member for the KangUikei), and Mr Hall (member for Waipawa), and that they be requested to use their best endeavors to have the above given effect
