w — (Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. Arrived— Sherard Osborne, cable repairing steamer, from Nelson. Mails per Monowai, from Auckland (10th August), arrived in London on 11th instant, due date. Auckland, This Day. The body of the missing man Richard Black well, aged 73, was found in a culvert at Epsom. Cakterton, Sept. 14. Expecting the borough to be divided into wards, Messrs Aplin, Fairbrother and Hughan, withdrew from the contest on Tuesday about 3 p.m., and took no part in the election. The returning officer refused to accept the withdrawal because 48 hours' notice was not given. Duxedin, Sept. 14. The Agricultural Society has declined the request of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce to join in asking the Government to extend the reduction of the freights for the carriage of lime to consigements of 1^ tons. The reason of the refusal is that, as no other goods can be carried in the same truck, it would be unreasonable to reduce the carriage for small lots.
