The weaiher \va>s ftac with a cool breeze for the opening clay of the A.J.C. Spring Meeting. Results: — Hurdle Race, 21 miles— Lena 1, Messenger 2, Boots 3. Ten horses started. Won by a length. Time, 5m in «s.sec. Trial Stakes, 1\ miles - Loch Leigh 1, Viviau 2, Kelso 3. Eleven horses ran. Won by a neck. Time, 2min 14!, sec. A.J.C. Derby, H miles— Rob" Ray 1, Onward 2. Manulicher and Toreador ran a dead heat for third place. The other starters were Flintlock, Redavina and Form. Betting 2to 1 against Form, 7 to 2 Toreador, 3 to 1 Rob Ray, 8 to 1 Mannlicher. As the tapes were released Redavina was the first to move, but on passing the stand Maunlichcr, pulling double, was in front after whom came Form with Rob Ray last. Mannlicher was the first to enter the straight, but hero both Rob Ray and Onward put in their claims and the former, slipping up on the inside, had the race in hand at the distance, and won easily by a couple of lengths from Onward. Time, 2inin 41sec. Epsom Handicap, 1 mile — Hopscotch 1, Courallie 2, Dalmeny 3. All the final acceptors started. An excellent start was affected by the machine, and after a splendid race was won by a head. Betting 6 to 1 Nobleman, 8 to 1 Hopscotch, 10 to 1 Courallie, 12 to 1 Solauuni. Spring Handicap, 1\ mile — Quiver 1, Valiant 2, Delaware 3. Eleven horses started. From an excellent start Quiver rushed to the front with Valiant and St. Hippo, while Atlas run up to the leaders, but Quiver came on full of running and won by a couple of lengths. Time, 2niin 40sec. Kensington Handicap, 1 mile — Witchery 1, Boko 2. Wyalond and Palo Allo ran a dead heat for third place. Sixteen started. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin 43sec. Sypsey, Sept. 15. There is very little betting over the A.J.C. Metropolitan Stakes. The latest quotations are — 6 to 1 against Quiver, 7 to 1 The Trier, 10 to 1 Delaware, Mahee and Courallie. For the V.R.C. Derby 9 to 2 is wanted about Rob Ray. London, Sept. 15. Paris has been backed to win the Cambridgeshire Handicap at 33 to 1.
