Brisbane, This Day. In committee on the Gambling Suppression Bill an amendment to eliminate the clause exempting church bazaars, and lotteries for charitable purposes from the operation of the Bill, was carried against the Government on the casting vote of the chairman. Mr Wragge predicts stormy weather between Bass Straits and the Bluff in the next few days. Sir J. F. Garrick, Agent-General in London, has been appointed successor to the late Mr Justice Harding. Sir T. Mcll wraith has been offered, but has declined, the Agent-Generalship. It is understood the Hon E. Forrest, M.L.C., will be appointed. Adelaide, Sept. 11. At a meeting of the trustees of the Sayings Bank, it was resolved to ask the Government to postpone the State Advances to Settlers Bill until the views of depositors are ascertained. In the Assembly the State Advances Bill was read a second time by 33 to 17. A large number of the majority support the cred.t foncier system, but are apposed to taking over the Savings Bank, which will be contested in committee.
