The Wool Sales.
TOO MUCH COMPETITION. (Per Press Association). Melbourne, September 9 The Age commenting on the practice of holding simultaneous wool sales in London and Australia, says that the former are so arranged that to a considerable extent they enter into direct competition with those in Australia, and the rivalry has been accentuated lately j by increasing those in London from 4 to 6. The Australian sales opening in October deal with the new clip, while the j bulk of that offering at the fifth and sixth | London series is old wool, and the prices obtained for the latter influence largely local bidding. The interests of London dealers are to reduce prices to the lowest point in the hope that wool producers will be dissatisfied, and instead of selling locally will ship to London. The paper strongly advocates a better arrangement, and suggests as a compromise the abandonment of the London November and December series, and the first sale to be fixed for February. This |t believes would reduce hurtful competition and pjape both markets on a sounder footing.
